Lying just 8 miles South of John o' Groats and midway from
Wick and the most Northerly point on the Scottish mainland, The Sinclair Bay
Hotel forms an ideal base for the Summer Ferry to the Orkney Isles.
The area
surrounding the Sinclair Bay is unique in the British Isles, with an austere
beauty manifested in endless sweeping panoramas North to the Orkneys, South
to Sinclairs Bay, and South-West to the ancient peatland of The Flow Country.
Many of the local place names have a Norse origin, and just
2.5 miles from the hotel is the Northlands Viking Centre.
Wick has the famous
Caithness Glass, together with fine shops, a swimming pool, tennis, squash
and other sporting facilities. There is ample opportunity for golf, with the
18 hole Wick Links at Reiss only a few miles South, and other local courses
at Thuso and Reay.
The area is renowned for its birdwatching opportunities. The
hotel can arrange loch and sea fishing for guests.
The original Keiss Castle was built in the 16h Century, and
became a fashionable romantic ruin when the new castle replaced it in 1755.
This was extended in the 1860's.

The old harbour at Keiss is still in use today as a port for
shellfishing.
